The US ambassador to Libya: We are working to develop a road map that will lead Libya to safety

The Special Envoy and Ambassador of the United States of America to Libya Richard Norland stressed the need to work to support all Libyan parties in order to formulate a road map to bring Libya to safety.

In a press statement on the sidelines of the consultative meeting between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State regarding the election law, which is being hosted in Rabat, the US official stressed the need to encourage all Libyan leaders to work together and make the necessary compromises in order to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people, to hold free and fair elections on 24 next December.

The US ambassador explained that his country supports this meeting and the parties to the crisis in Libya, stressing that "this is a watershed moment in the history and course of the Libyan negotiations."

He stressed the need to establish legal foundations before holding the presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya, and also stressed the need to stop foreign military actions in Libya, and work to combat terrorism and armed groups.

The meetings are scheduled to last for two days, and another delegation from Tunisia is expected to arrive in the coming hours.
