Sudan's Prime Minister: The failed coup attempt was made by remnants of the former regime

Sudanese Prime Minister, Dr. Abdullah Hamdok, said that what happened was an attempted coup by parties inside and outside the armed forces from the remnants of the former regime.

He stressed in a televised speech broadcast by Sudanese state television, while commenting on the failed coup attempt in Sudan: We will continue to dismantle the former regime, pointing out that preparations for the coup attempt have been made by spreading chaos.

He continued, "The transition experience must be reviewed with full transparency and clarity," and called for those involved to be held accountable, saying: "All those involved in the coup attempt, both military and civilians, must be held accountable."

Hamdok said: "We call on the Sudanese people to support the transitional government and complete the institutions of the stage."

The Sudanese armed forces had announced that a coup attempt had been thwarted in the country, and Brigadier General Tahir Abu Haga, media advisor to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, said in a statement to SUNA that the armed forces thwarted the coup attempt and that the situation was completely under control.
