The Iraqi authorities announce that measures are being taken to identify the bodies of the unknown "Hussein" victims

The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced that the official death toll from the fire of Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in Dhi Qar Governorate has reached 60.

The ministry said in a statement today, Wednesday, that after the completion of civil defense and forensic medicine procedures in Dhi Qar Governorate, the total number of deaths in the Al Hussein Hospital incident reached 39 people with known identity and 21 unidentified deaths.

The statement indicated that the necessary measures are being taken to determine the identities of the unidentified bodies, and this will be announced once the necessary forensic medical procedures are completed.

The fire broke out in the Purity Center at Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital for the treatment of patients with the emerging corona virus in the city of Nasiriyah in southern Iraq yesterday, Monday, and it is the second fire in a hospital to isolate patients (Covid-19) within 3 months.

Initial police reports indicated that an oxygen tank explosion inside the hospital's Corona patients ward was the likely cause of the fire.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health stated that what is being circulated about the numbers of victims in some media and social media is incorrect, noting that the Ministry of Health and Environment is the only official source of information and statistics.
