23.7% decrease in the number of foreigners working in the private and investment sectors in Egypt in 2020


Today, Thursday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued the "Annual Bulletin for foreigners working in the private and investment sector in Egypt in 2020." Among the most important statistical indicators in the bulletin are the following:

 

The total number of foreigners working in the private and investment sector reached 11,404 (including 9767 males, or 85.6%, and 1637 females, 14.4%) foreigners of various nationalities in 2020, compared to 14,950 foreigners in 2019, a decrease of 23.7%, due to the health conditions that affected the world due to the Covid pandemic. 19 (Coronavirus), and the number of foreigners working in Egypt for the first time reached 4,202 foreigners, or 36.8%, and foreigners for whom contracts were renewed, 7,202 foreigners, or 63.2%, in 2020.

 

Foreigners from Asian (non-Arab) countries represent the largest number, amounting to 4,812 foreigners, or 42.2%, most of them from Bangladesh, with 1,255 foreigners, or 26.1%, and India, with 1,191 foreigners, or 24.8%, followed by European countries with 2,682 foreigners, or 23.5%, most of whom are from From the United Kingdom, with 847 foreigners, or 31.6%. And Italy with 356 foreigners, or 13.3%, in 2020, then the Arab countries with 2,564 foreigners, or 22.5%, most of them from Syria, with 1,199 foreigners, or 46.8%, and Palestine, with 401 foreigners, or 15.6%, and then the American countries with 893 foreigners, or 7.8. Most of them are from the United States, with 576 foreigners, or 64.5%, and Canada, with 218 foreigners, or 24.4%, followed by African (non-Arab) countries, which amounted to 247 foreigners, or 2.2%, while the Oceanic countries represented the lowest numbers, with 120 foreigners, representing 1.1% of the total. Investment offices represent the first rank in terms of issuing work licenses to foreigners working in the private and investment sector in Egypt, where the number of work licenses issued reached 4,644 licenses, or 40.7%, followed by the directorates of the workforce with 3,889 licenses, or 34.1%, and then corporate offices with 1,520 licenses, or 13.3⸓. Then the petroleum offices with 1351 licenses, representing 11.9% of the total licenses granted to foreigners working in the private and investment sectors in 2020.

 

Legislators, senior officials and managers represent the largest number, amounting to 3,672 foreigners, or 32.2%, followed by specialists (people with scientific professions) with 3,172 foreigners, or 27.8%, then technicians and assistant specialists, with 2,967 foreigners, or 26.0% of the total number of foreigners working in the private and investment sectors in 2020.

 

 The manufacturing activity represents the largest number in terms of the number of foreign workers, reaching 3,800 foreigners, or 33.3%, followed by arts, creativity and entertainment activities, with 1,838 foreigners, or 16.1%, then mining and quarrying, with 1,359, or 11.9%, and then education, with 1,304 foreigners, at 11.4. % of the total number of foreigners working in the private and investment sector in 2020.
