WADA President thanks the Egyptian government for its support for African sport


Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Witold Banka, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), met in the presence of Rondi Swigler, Director of the Regional Anti-Doping Office in Africa “RADO”, and Dr. Hazem Khamis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization “NADO”, this Monday morning. , at the Ministry’s general office, within the framework of the official visit of the head of the IAEA to Egypt, to enhance international cooperation in the fight against doping.


The Minister of Youth and Sports expressed his great happiness that Egypt is the first country in Africa during the tour of the President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), affirming Egypt's full support to the International Anti-Doping Agency and the regional office in the field of anti-doping, especially in the matter of spreading and supporting the culture of rejection and anti-doping and awareness of its dangers on All individuals, especially among athletes, noting that this visit reflects the great confidence that the Egyptian sports system has become in light of the unlimited support and care of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, who put Egypt in the ranks of adults not only in the fields of sports but in various fields political and economic


Sobhi praised the experience possessed by the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), as he was Minister of Sports before taking the position of head of the agency, which reflects positively on the sports community in light of the implementation of the agency's plans and strategy at the level of countries in the world in coordination with national anti-doping organizations.


For his part, the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) affirmed that sport is the soft power that unites all peoples, expressing his happiness with the actual and rapid steps that Egypt is currently taking in the field of anti-doping, given that Egypt has a great place in the continent of Africa politically, economically and sportingly.


Banka thanked the Egyptian government for the financial support that was directed to scientific research, development and training for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), praising the distinguished role of the Minister of Youth and Sports in forming the board of directors of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization "NADO", which includes distinguished cadres capable of implementing plans. He pointed out that the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency praised the efforts of the Egyptian state and the government’s support for African sport, which made Egypt a destination for hosting and organizing various continental and international tournaments, praising the support provided by the Egyptian government to the anti-doping system not only in Egypt but at the level The African continent, which will make the Egyptian laboratory an important international center on which the IAEA will rely in its efforts towards combating doping in African sports.


For his part, Rondy Swigler, Director of the Regional Anti-Doping Office, thanked the Minister of Youth and Sports for the continuous and continuous support for cooperation between the organization, the International Agency and the Regional Office.


During his speech, Dr. Hazem Khamis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization (NADO), stressed that the Board of Directors was chosen with great care to include all disciplines in order to develop regulations and adhere to the international anti-doping code.


The meeting dealt with the final steps for accrediting the Egyptian laboratory affiliated with the Armed Forces, in light of the efforts made by the Egyptian government to provide and facilitate all capabilities for finalizing the laboratory’s accreditation procedures. The meeting also discussed the final conception of the establishment of the African Anti-Doping Academy in Egypt, which is considered one of the most important awareness and training centers. This field is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.
