The North Korean leader holds a consultative meeting with senior officials of the ruling party

North Korean state media reported Tuesday that young Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a consultative meeting with senior officials to discuss economic policies for the second half of the year before the main party meeting.

Kim urged officials to make "unremitting efforts" to improve the economy during a meeting with senior officials of the central committee and regional committees of the ruling Workers' Party, the North's official Korean Central News Agency reported.

"The consultative meeting, prior to the full meeting of the CPC Central Committee, extensively examined the detailed situation of each area regarding the implementation of major policies for the latter half of this year, and discussed practical issues and coping with the situation," the agency said.

It added that the North Korean leader had drawn up a plan to bring about "a tangible change in the stability of the country's economic work and standard of living." The Korean Central News Agency did not provide details of Kim's plan.
