The International Federation of Modern Pentathlon thanks Egypt for the success of the World Championship in light of the Corona pandemic

Klaus Schuermann, President of the International Federation of Modern Pentathlon, thanked Egypt for hosting and making the World Senior Championships qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics a success in light of the Corona pandemic worldwide.

Egypt hosted in the stadiums of Cairo International Stadium the World Senior Modern Pentathlon Championship, qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, and the World Laser Run Championship from June 8 to 14.

Schurmann stressed that Egypt succeeded in the challenge of hosting the largest modern pentathlon championships this year, which qualifies for the Tokyo Olympics, in the midst of difficult circumstances around the world in light of the Corona pandemic. Schurmann added that Egypt is a big country and always hosts major tournaments in all sports and defies all odds to continue sporting life and all activities.

Schurmann thanked Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Eng. Sherif El-Erian, President of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation for the fruitful cooperation in hosting major sporting events in the Modern Pentathlon.

It is noteworthy that Ahmed El-Gendy, a player for the national team, won the bronze medal in the men's singles competition, collecting 1,417 points, to officially qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. While Egypt also won the bronze medal for the teams, after the Egyptian team consisting of Ahmed El-Gendy, Islam Hamed and Ahmed Ashraf came in third place. Ahmed Ashraf, the national team, came in fourth place with 1,412 points at the end of the men's singles competition, to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in the world ranking.

50 countries participated in the tournament with more than 500 male and female players, and the tournament was the most important in the qualification journey for the Tokyo Olympics, as it was difficult for the top three places for the Olympics, and it is the last stop in the journey to reach the most important sporting event that takes place every 4 years, which is the Olympic Games - Tokyo
