Republican Senator: There is agreement that the Houthis are a terrorist organization

Republican Senator Tom Cotton said that the Biden administration's decision is a reversal of its previous decision to remove the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, adding that there is now agreement that the Houthis are a terrorist group that threatens security and stability in Yemen.

"The Biden administration retracts its previous decision, and now agrees that terrorists threaten peace and security in Yemen," he added on his Twitter account.

On Friday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the imposition of sanctions on two senior Houthi leaders who pose a threat to the peace efforts and their actions exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, in reference to Muhammad Abdul Karim Al-Ghamari and Youssef Al-Madani.

Blinken added in a tweet on "Twitter", that the United States and the international community are calling for an end to the Houthi attack on Marib and an immediate ceasefire.

This comes as the US Treasury Department announced, Friday, the imposition of sanctions against prominent military officials affiliated with the Houthi militia in Yemen, and said that the group’s actions prolong the civil war in Yemen and worsen the humanitarian crisis there.
