An increase in exports of the pharmaceutical and medical industries by 49% in the first quarter of 2021


Exports of medical sectors "medicine, medical supplies and cosmetics" rose to record 176 million dollars in the first quarter of 2021 compared to 118 million dollars in the first quarter of 2020, a 49% increase, according to the Medical and Pharmaceutical Export Council.

 

In its monthly report, the council said that the sector’s exports during January 2021 recorded 59 million dollars, compared to 32 million dollars in January of last year, and February exports reached 59 million dollars, compared to 44 million dollars, and March exports amounted to 56 million dollars, compared to 42 million dollars.

 

The council stated that pharmaceutical exports recorded in January 2021 a value of 17 million dollars compared to 14 million dollars, and 15 million dollars in February 2021 compared to 14 million dollars in the same month of last year, and amounted to 23 million dollars in March of this year compared to 13 million dollars only. Same month last year.

 

The council revealed that cosmetic exports recorded in January 2021 a value of $ 37 million compared to $ 12 million in the same month last year, and $ 38 million in February 2021 compared to $ 24 million in the same month of 2020, and amounted to $ 25 million in March of this year compared to Only 23 million dollars the same month last year.

 

The council also revealed that medical supplies exports in January 2021 recorded 5 million dollars compared to 6 million dollars in 2020, 7 million dollars in February 2021 compared to 7 million dollars in the same month last year, and in March 9 million dollars in 2021 compared to 6 million dollars in the year the past.

 

For his part, Dr. Majid Jurouj, Chairman of the Export Council, affirmed the council’s determination to raise the sector’s exports during the coming period, according to the government's strategy to promote the export sector, amid great interest in this vital file.

 

He pointed out that the focus is on the African market as it is a main window for Egyptian exports and can be expanded in the coming period and to meet the needs of this market in terms of medical supplies and medicines, stressing the importance of the Egyptian presence in the countries of the African continent, and this is very clear in the export support program, which supports shipping to Africa.

 

He touched on the importance of activating the system of mutual recognition between Egypt and Sudan in the field of medicine, in order to facilitate the entry of Egyptian drug products to the Sudanese market, in light of great government support for the direction towards Africa.
