YouTube extends ban on Trump for a week

Al Arabiya TV reported, in breaking news to it a short while ago, that YouTube is extending for a week the ban on the outgoing US President Donald Trump.

The American magazine Newsweek said that a new study found that misinformation about the US elections 2020 has decreased by 73% since the outgoing President Donald Trump and his allies banned social media platforms following the Capitol events.

The study, conducted by San Francisco-based data analysis firm Zignal Labs, found that conversations about election fraud fell by about 2.5 million mentions, to 388,000 social media users from January 9 to 15.

Facebook and Instagram imposed a ban on Trump on January 7 for an indefinite period, and the next day, Twitter announced the permanent suspension of Trump's account due to the risks of further violence in the wake of the attack on the Capitol. Twitter also said that more than 70,000 accounts linked to the Qi Wonon extremist protection were banned on January 11.

Kate Starbeard, a disinformation researcher at the University of Washington, told the Washington Post that these actions together will likely reduce the amount of disinformation on the Internet in the short term, but what happens in the long term remains pending.

Zignal found that hashtags associated with the Capitol riot have also fallen since Trump was ousted from social media. The hashtag, Fight for trump, Hold the line, and more, which was used extensively in the week before the Capitol events, has fallen by 95%.

The report found, that the phrases and hashtags used by supporters of the Kiu Anon group have also decreased last week. But the mention of the group's name itself and its mysterious leader, symbolized by Kew, has increased by 15%.
